Quintessa Matranga: Me At 3AM

Queer Thoughts

373 Broadway, #C9, New York

May 25 – June 25, 2017

Most of these were painted on the floor of my bedroom, a few inches away from the edge of my bed. I have a “studio,” or a separate place to work on the other side of the door. But for these I choose to work in my bedroom. I felt it was more comfortable and private. And about halfway through this series it occurred to me that “comfort” (like a warm quilt) was also an inspiration for these pictures. Comfort separates you from reality. And like with dreaming, painting means an adventure can happen without going anywhere, just being in your own little room.
