Antonella Arismendi, from Argentina, calls herself a, “fashion photographer, visual artist and astrologer,” and her work feels like a deft combination of all three. While beauty plays a central role, there is a surreal aspect that brings the viewer into an alternate world of glacial eyes and gravity defying skies. Antonella builds worlds with layers of sparkling beauty and color, photographic images and paint. Her mystical images make me wonder; what is going on in her head? PotatoMike asked a few questions that only served to deepened the mystery and made her enigmatic work all the more enticing. But don’t take Potato Mike’s word for it. You gotta see it for yourself.
What inspired you became an artist?
It happened accidentally. I never imagined that I would dedicate myself to photography. It was a tool that was within my reach since my childhood and allowed me to communicate my world-view.
What keeps you motivated to create art?
One of my greatest motivations is based in astrology and spiritual knowledge.
What are you trying to communicate through your art?
My profession is essentially a way to communicate my spiritual search.
How do you pick a subject for your artwork?
What inspires me the most is to isolate myself from everything that has already been done visually and create something new. It’s an intense process to convert ideas from the ethereal to the tangible plane, it’s when the alchemical act happens.
What is the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?
One of my best experiences with photography was photographing the Northern Lights in Norway.
